We seek to love God above all things, and our neighbors as ourselves.

Mission

The family of faith at Ghent UMC seeks to demonstrate their love of God, through loving others.
We seek to love others by providing food, physical food, and spiritual food, to those who are hungry.

We help provide food for those far away through programs like Stop Hunger Now, and seek to provide food for families in our community by making sandwiches for homeless persons for St. Columba Ministries, donating canned food items and clothing to Ghent Area Ministries, providing canned and packaged food to Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia each time we experience communion, by celebrating tea time with the ladies at the Lydia Roper Home, and preparing meals for new mothers and those struggling with illness within our own faith family.

In John 6:35, Christ tells us "I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty."  So we seek to share the Good News of Christ to all who hunger and thirst spiritually.  In Matthew 25:31-46, Christ tells a parable about the importance of reaching out in His name to those who are physically hungry, thirsty, in need of companionship or clothing. He tells us, "...whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."

So we serve...
