Sunday Worship Details
Come as you are and join us each Sunday at 10am for worship and fellowship. Everyone is welcome. Bring a friend!
- Please use the doors at the top of the big staircase that faces Stockley Gardens (Rd). Park in our parking lot in the back or on the street.
- Bring the children! Pastor Britney will have a special message for your children and grandchildren during Worship. And after they hear the Children’s Message, they can stay in the sanctuary OR go to Children’s Church down the hall. There will be an age appropriate Bible lesson from the Grow Kids Curriculum, craft and activities.
- We also have a nursery for infants – 3 years old, if you would like to use it. It is available at 9:50am.

Holy Communion
Join us on first Sundays for our Worship Service when we celebrate Holy Communion! Everyone is invited to the table of Jesus. We use a gluten-free loaf and grape juice.
4th Sundays

Food Collection Sunday
Each 4th Sunday, we place a basket by the altar to collect non-perishable food for those who are hungry in our community, including those experiencing homelessness. If you forget your donation on Sunday, drop it off at the church office during the week.
Food suggestions include hearty snacks, canned goods such as tuna (pop top, if you can), cereal, boxed milk, water, instant coffee, sugar packets, and individual powdered drink packets that are added to bottles of water and dried fruit.
Most of the food, particularly any perishables, will be taken to Ghent Area Ministry on Colonial Ave. The rest will remain here for those who ask us for food.

Lenten Worship Series
Join us as we continue our Lenten worship series called “Wandering Heart.” We are journeying with the disciple Peter toward Easter through Scripture and Art. We will celebrate Holy Communion together each Sunday, as well.
Pastor Britney has placed books in the back of the sanctuary for you to borrow during this season.

Organ Music
Our Organist Brad Norris plays our Casavant organ for our 10am Worship service several times a year. Come enjoy his gift and be blessed. His next dates are Palm Sunday and Easter.
Brad is Dean of the Tidewater Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. After 36 years, he retired from St. Andrew’s Church and School in Newport News. He lives in Hampton and enjoys doing work as an organ/piano substitute and accompanying various singing groups in Hampton Roads, such as Bellissima.

Palm / Passion Sunday
Highlight your holiday season by coming to our Palm Sunday worship service. We’ll commemorate Jesus Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Organist Brad Norris will be playing.
Be sure to arrive on time so you don’t miss “Jesus” riding our donkey into the sanctuary while everyone in the congregation waves palm branches and sings hosannas! This, as always, is a service for all ages.

After Worship
Annual Egg Hunt
We are inviting you to our annual, Egg Hunt following our Palm Sunday service. All children are welcome to the free, egg finding fun!
Gather your little ones at the front of our church facing Stockley Gardens. Ages 3 and under will hunt in our side garden, after ages 4 and above have finished in Stockley Gardens across the street. Please BYOB (bring your own basket).

Good Friday Service
Bring someone to our Good Friday worship service at 6p.m. on April 3!
Good Friday is holy and makes us holy because God is drawing the world to God’s self in Christ. We will reflect on God’s purpose of loving and redeeming the world even in the face of human rejection and cruelty through the cross of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Easter Sunday Morning
Join us for worship on Easter Sunday, April 5. Rev. Britney Toner will lead our celebration of The Resurrection and deliver the sermon. Organist Brad Norris will help us to make a joyful noise unto the Lord! Please bring fresh flowers from your gardens to adorn the Living Cross!

Morning Bible Study
Our in-person Bible Study meets on Monday from 10:30am – 12:30pm at the home of a GUMC member. This 6-week session began February 9 and we are readaing “Why Did Jesus Have to Die?” by Rev. Sunday Bible Discussion
Weekly, in-person, discussions are Sundays, 9 – 9:45am. All adults are invited to meet in the back of the sanctuary. If needed, use the ramp on the side of the front porch. Please enter at the top of the big staircase that faces Stockley Gardens (Rd).
This group reviews the Bible using the Standard Lesson Quarterly series.

Want to Sing or play?
If you would like to sing with us on Sundays, let our Minister of Music know! Choir rehearsals are on Sundays, 11:30am-12:30pm. The choir sings on selected dates.
There are also musical opportunities, if you want to play an instrument. The Gathering Jam Band meets 15 minutes before the service on the second Sundays and plays through the service that day. If you don’t play an instrument, come out and play the maracas or other hand percussion. Let Minister of Music Nellwyn Beamon know, if you have any questions.
